...Weak and helpless, be not fearful...
THAT was the score at New Haven last Saturday. What does this show? It clearly shows that our Freshmen are at present a weak batting, but a good fielding nine. The Yale pitcher is a good one, but even those hits that were not base hits were not, as a rule, good square ones. Evidently there must be more attention paid to batting; there is good material in the Nine, and if they practise more at the bat, they can be a strong batting as well as a strong fielding nine. They must by no means neglect fielding practice...

...Yale Nine, says the Courant, has shown great carelessness in its practice games, and much dissatisfaction is felt at the two serious defeats - 4 to 0 and 7 to 0 - which the nine has lately received; the fielding record has been good, but the nine is weak at the bat. The reviews in this number are mild but judicious, and the Yalensicula column contains fully as many thrilling personalities as usual...
...sung with half so much strength and finish. Their shading was very good. A fine effect was produced in the coda of the "Summer Morning," where a forte passage was immediately followed by a delicate pianissimo. "The Water-Lily" had much fine work in it, but seemed in spots weak, on account of the straining on the first tenor part. "The Three Glasses" and the "Champagne Song" seemed to be the most popular. The College songs need no special comment...
