...Schlesinger can be self-important (the dinners on Martha's Vineyard with movie stars, the lunches at Manhattan's Mortimer's restaurant with the society crowd). He indulges the old New Deal intellectual's habit of bashing business and businessmen in an almost recreational way. (At one point he blithely equates capitalism with sexism and racism.) But even his smugness has a certain hilarious pungency. He records the time in London toward the end of the war when a V-1 bomb fell close by; everyone else in his office fell to the floor, but as a coworker's journal...
...cute, peppy Cameron Diaz as the most adorable of the Angels; Drew Barrymore as the most vulnerable of them (she seems actually to be acting now and then, which is probably a mistake in this context); and Lucy Liu as the most ferocious, albeit in an interesting, crabby way. Under the guidance of a music-video director who is known simply as McG, they all manage to not quite fall out of their costumes numerous times...

Though there's little about music here, another of Tina's observations puts Frank's shortcomings into proper perspective: "Had he been a healthier, less tortured man, he might have been Perry Como." Of course you can't balance a childhood against, say, "All the Way," except to say, her loss, our gain...

The companies have delivered on their earnings - that's why they're still flying - but by the usual, pre-bubble calculations these guys may not be quite done with their comeuppance...
