As they work their way through their various relationships, that friendship is both funny and genuinely warm. The casual acceptance of smoking, alcohol use and sex (aside: could Renee Zellweger, recently cast as Bridget, duplicate this very British aspect of Bridget?) shows that Bridget is less high-strung than Ally McBeal, the inevitable object of comparison.
