Work on the terminal of the Cambridge subway near Harvard square is being pushed in order that it may be completed in time for the opening of the new rapid transit line in December. The steel frames for the machine shop and for the inspection shed, built on solid concrete foundations several feet below the level of the surrounding streets, are already erected. ...eight-oared shell presented to the University Boat Club by Walter Cabot Baylies '84 to replace that injured in transit from England, arrived yesterday. It will be rigged immediately, and after being christened tomorrow will be given a thorough trial by the University crew. The shell is from the shops of Sims & Sons, of Putney, England. ...Harvard square. The floors of the two tubes have been cleared and are now ready for the tracks. These will be laid at once and it is hoped that the electrification will be completed during the summer. However, the cars cannot be run in the Cambridge division until the Transit Commission has finished the Beacon Hill tunnel now under construction. ...Parsons graduated from Columbia University in 1879, and received the degree of C.E. three years later. In 1898 he went to China, and spent a year there building the Canton-Hankow Railway. From 1894 to 1904 he was chief engineer of the Rapid Transit Commission of New York, and acting in this capacity, constructed the whole underground transit system of the city.
