This cat looked ready for a nap. Rolling across the snowy plains, reclining in his chair, he simply didn't bother striking the pose of the combative candidate. A friend says, "Bill thinks a lot of what he's supposed to do on the trail is bull___." From that attitude springs the best and worst of the man--small transcendent moments like Wednesday's emotional health-care event and the cranky, can't-be-bothered-with-this attitude that makes people wonder why they should bother with...
...party, Duehay laughingly told partygoers of an experience he had on the 1997 campaign trail that made him think seriously about retirement. As he visited with an elderly woman, she said she remembered meeting his "father" when he was running for office more than 30 years...

Aides have also backed off. Rather than grilling Bush right up until air time before...
Because Vice President Al Gore is basically a decent and well-intentioned man, you find yourself constantly wanting to rush up to him on the presidential campaign trail and save him from himself. He is a sharp guy, but he knows next to nothing about the social contract between humans, probably because it is not written down anywhere and cannot be downloaded into the Palm V organizer he keeps strapped to his belt at all times...
