...September 1837, having captured a Seminole chief. Major General Thomas S. Jesup persuaded Osceola to meet one of his officers under a flag of truce, treat for peace. Trustingly Osceola advanced with several chiefs and 198 tribespeople. All threw down their guns. When the parley was well started, General Jesup's soldiers leaped from the bushes, captured the Indians without a struggle. Osceola was imprisoned in Charleston. S.
