Upon graduating from West Point in 1876, Colonel Scott entered the cavalry service, and in each of the three succeeding years went with expeditions among the Indians in the far West. For twelve years previous to 1891 he did routine duty among these people, having charge of an investigation of the ghost dance disturbances.
