...corporation have refused the petition in behalf of the preservation of the old "fence" which was signed by nearly two thousand of the alumni. Granting that the ground about the "fence" must some time be used, the conclusion of the corporation is the only reasonable one to draw, although it was the hope of the petitioners that the refusal to place the proposed building there would establish a precedent that would render the corner forever inviolate. A large mass meeting of the students was recently held at which resolutions were unanimously adopted protesting against the proposed plans, and a committee composed of undergraduates from the different classes were appointed to obtain the views of the alumni upon the subject. Over six thousand letters have been sent out and the replies are now pouring in. As a rule they are strongly in favor of retaining the "fence" at any cost.
