...beat A. Ingraham, 6-3, 6-1, and J. B. Read beat A. S. Pier, 4-6, 10-8, 8-6. The latter match showed some very pretty tennis. In the first set Read started in to play net, but though he did some very clever work there, the swift drives of Pier forced him back.
