...interview with TIME last week, Gore let fire: he charged that Bradley would destroy programs such as Medicaid, that he takes "an old-style approach [to poverty] that spends a lot of money but doesn't have any new ideas," and would bust the budget besides. "When people have the time to analyze what he is actually proposing," says Gore, "they're in for a real surprise...

...still have a difficult time recommending an Atkins-style, high-saturated-fat diet to my patients. Though the diet does provide a quick weight loss and is very satiating, I am concerned about its possible effects on people with serious heart, liver or kidney disease and cancer. As long as you are healthy, a high-fat diet is usually fine for a while. But after about a month, you should go off it. That's the problem. When people begin to go off the strictest form of the diet, they have to be extremely careful as they increase the amount...

...that He is everything else. A similar tactic works for the flygirls. They're not the Supremes, exactly, although in some scenes they do alternate their backflips with do-wop backup harmonies. They're not all TLC, despite their crazysexycool attitude and hip-hop flava (they describe their dance style as "hip-hop and jazz meets Tae Bo"). They are not so much the In Living Color flygirls as they are the dancers in the video for the Paula Abdul song "Cold-Hearted Snake...

...colors of the sirens and streetlights are stretched out to a wail and a blur, and anguish tugs on every line of Cage's face. Many key scenes are cramped into the driver's seat and bloody siren lights stain the medics' faces. This gristly and sometimes hallucinatory style is not for every viewer's consumption. Sensory overload coupled with the constant despair theme can make the film itself seem too purgatorial to bear. But there's also plenty of gallows-humor tossed back and forth between the medics. The movie bristles with the kind of humor that makes...
