...former collegians started the game with a whirlwind march up the field, pushing the ball over for a touchdown in the first few minutes of play. Straight football was productive of gains for both teams, practically no open play being in evidence throughout the contest. Again in the fourth period the heavier team scored on a blocked punt and the subsequent recovery of the ball. A succession of hard line plunges in the last quarter resulted in Carlisle's single touchdown. Captain Hamilton Fish '10, H. B. Gardner '13, p. Grant '08, and Snow of Dartmouth excelled...

Forward passing constituted a good part of the repertoire of plays of both the elevens, but not much success attended the numerous attempts. Straight old-fashioned line-plunging and a succession of punts were again the dominant factors in the ground gaining of either team. With the possible exception of one or two of the smaller colleges none of the football teams have perfected the open style game this year. Occasionally when resorted to as the last hope, it has proved successful, but consistent gaining with any degree of certainty has never resulted from its use. The Yale team scored...

The team's gains from open formations in the games played have been much less than was expected and less, also, than the gains through straight football. It is hoped, however, that the hard practice of the past week will have its effect in this respect in the two remaining contests and that the policy of the "open game" will thereby be vindicated...

Yale, played in better form than she has shown so far this season. Swift and sure on the attack and with a defence that was practically unpregnable, the Yale team distinctly outclassed the Colgate eleven and won with ease, 49 to 7. Using straight old fashioned football Yale four times rushed the ball from her own 20-yard line down the field in a series of 5 yard plunges that resulted in touchdowns. The Colgate attack forced the ball to the opponents' 1 yard line on one occasion, but the Yale defence stiffened perceptibly and withstood the attack, holding...
