...interview with TIME last month, Brown spoke of his hopes that America and Europe might work more closely "despite all the difficulties of the last few years... to make sure the world is actually not just a more economically prosperous place but a fairer place." Those sentiments are straight from the Blair handbook - which is one reason that Blair threatens to cast a long shadow over Brown's foreign policy...

Frank, obviously, has a drinking problem. And it is interfering with his job performance. Indeed, he sleeps straight through his next assignment. Since he's a hit man for a fading mob, that is not exactly a good career move. His boss (Philip Baker Hall) orders him to San Francisco to dry out. On the face of it, this is not a good idea; Frank is not what you'd call a logical candidate for AA pieties. Reyes seems to be following the Dellums trajectory. "Chairman Reyes is a straight shooter and a good man," a senior intelligence official told me, using nearly the same language to defend Reyes that Cheney had used years earlier to defend Dellums. Reyes has succeeded in pressing the Bush Administration to work through the courts to get permission to eavesdrop on e-mails and phone calls between Americans and people overseas. He also got the Administration to turn over records of the National Security Agency's eavesdropping plan. He has traveled to Iraq and Africa to look into the terrorism threat...
