Usage:

There will be many things to interest this veteran of world-changing battles. In all truth it may be that which we might suppose would interest him the most will not stir him. He has seen so very much of war, so very much of soldiers, courageous, hardy, strong, that the sight of one more regiment, however gallant and well-trained it may be, could well cause small influence on him. What thought can he have of a thousand men? He has been in command of millions...

...above, the use of full-page cartoons, which seem rather flippant and cheap for a serious college pictorial, and the glaring double-page "ad" in the exact centre of the paper,--the issue is very creditable. It reflects University life in its clever photographs, and echoes the present universal stir for real preparedness in a way which should fully satisfy the most broad-minded among us. All in all, it is a distinct step forward. N. C. STARR...

Cobb '19 were tried at bow, while A. Thorndike, Jr., moved to Parkman's place...

...this much-extolled, much-blackened New England tradition, can afford to welcome a few men of openly radical views. Nothing makes a man think for himself more than to be shocked by the expression of some extreme opinion. If a college education can do no more, it can stir up a man's brain cells. The prevailing type of undergraduate, contrary to the supposed condition of youth, is too stand, too conservative, to be carried away by the expression of radical ideas. Should a fortunate student be accidentally bumped from his daily rut, panic would seize him, and the next...
