...notice in Saturday morning's CRIMSON, that a victory is ascribed to Johnson over Bryan in Friday's straw ballot. I wish to take issue with this misleading statement. As a matter of fact, Bryan received a big majority over Johnson from the Democratic voters. It is ludicrous, to say the least, to count Republican votes for Democratic nominees, unless a Democrat is given first or second place. This is my point--the vast and varied absurdities of the two-season rule, as now maintained. When this law was first made, it was tagged with the statement that it was reasonable because it would affect so few. As a matter of fact it affected a great many. Probation itself became blunted and worm-eaten by this idiotic rule. Does a man who has made a successful record in the fall in both sports and studies find himself better off than his neighbor who has competed to the detriment of his courses? Not a whit. ...necessary to discuss Harvard's being "a rich man's college," as everyone who knows us knows what an utterly silly statement that is. As to the claim that there is favoritism shown towards Eastern men on the athletic teams the same can be said. The plain and simple answer is that the much greater proportion of Eastern men naturally bring a proportional representation on the teams
