Many writers use that as their stepping-off place because I think one thing that writers share in common is this sense of aloneness. Of somehow or another being cut off, being outside, and somehow having to communicate through writing. That?s the need for writing. And I find the characters I write also have that quality, of being somewhat or very much removed from the mainstream of life, and don?t know quite how to find themselves...
