Since the last call for candidates for the Mott Haven team over 35 new men have handed in their names. The work in the gymnasium has not yet been fully systemized but will be shortly. At present each squad of men has a leader and are taken through the high hurdling and dumb-bell exercises, after which the runners practise in starting in the cage. This is done under the careful instruction of Mr. Lathrop. The other men take exercise according to the kind of work each is preparing to do. Those in ending to enter running events have...
...present outlook for the '95 crew is very promising. Nearly all of last year's crew are at present training with the 'varsity squad and seventeen new men appeared at the gymnasium as additional candidates yesterday. The daily program of training consists of work at the chest-weights, dumb-bells, and rowing machines and a short run. No. 2, will not row this season; his place together with No. 6, are the vacant positions. Captain Ives is hard at work training his men and is perhaps the most valuable man of the lot. Among the substitutes, Howland and Chatfield...
...ninety-five crew are very bright this year, for all who rowed in the freshman boat, will try again this year, and will have to row on their class crew as they are too light for the 'varsity. Potter, Cameron, Eddy, and Davis are all with the 'varsity squad just at present, but Eddy seems to be the only man heavy enough for a permanent position in the boat. Eighteen men answered the call of Captain Briggs this afternoon, of these, nearly all are very light and inexperienced, though some good men are among the number, notably Cockrell, whose strength...
