President Carlos Mendieta broke the threat of such terrorists as Tony Guiteras two months ago when the general strike called by the radicals failed to spark the mass of Cuban workers (TIME, March 18). Until then, in all the 33 years of Cuba's terror-pocked history as a republic, no Cuban civilian had ever faced a firing squad. First to do so was one Jaime Greinstein, a Polish ne'er-do-well, who rhapsodied before he died one sunrise last month, "The skies of Cuba blush." Last week one Jose Costiello Fuentes, an ordinary bandit...
...Youth of Maxim (Lenfilm) relates the adventures which transform a jolly young factory worker into a hard-working member of the party which preserved the spark of the Russian Revolution after the unsuccessful revolt of 1905. When first seen, Maxim (Boris Chirkov) is stumping off to work cheerfully enough with his two companions, Andrei and Dyoma. Andrei is killed in a factory accident caused by an overseer's neglect. In the riots that follow, Dyoma kills a policeman. He and Maxim are carted off to jail where Dyoma is shot. By the time Maxim is freed, he is ready...

The prioress thinks she can make her into a good nun. But then young Pedro comes prowling around the walls, sees Dolores...
When sound movies first came in a good many years ago it was Al Jolson in Vitaphone's "The Jazz Singer" who put the new fad across. And it's the same old Al at the Met this week. The old boy still has that spark that makes you believe it when he says "You ain't heard nothing' yet." "Go Into Your Dance" is the feature of a good program from start to finish...
...bunch of players; to boot, it was his first responsible coaching job. The year's record was unmistakably poor, but it is not easy to bring a new style of play into this stronghold of toryism and reaction, nor is it easy to inspire a team from which the spark has been extinguished by years of consecutive defeat. Then too, factional prejudice arose on the squad, and the role of peace-maker, arbiter, and policeman was added to Wes' many troubles...
