...managing director of National Electric Light Association, powerful utilities propaganda agency. In 1926 he stepped into the presidency of National Broadcasting Co., just formed, and helped to lift NBC into big money by selling its time to advertisers. Last year potent Mr. Aylesworth left NBC to sell national advertising space in Scripps-Howard Newspapers. He did the job so well that Roy W. Howard last week rewarded him with the publishership of the New York World-Telegram, top unit in the chain. Mr. Howard kept the editor's job; Mr. Aylesworth's job: sales...

...Robert Ley, a 15 1/2-knot motor ship of 25,000 tons, is about the size of the two biggest ships (Manhattan and Washington) of the U. S. merchant marine. Besides a swimming pool with "voluptuous murals" and 5,000 sq. yd. of deck space, it has outside staterooms for all its 1,500 passengers. The Robert Ley is the second of no less than 20 25,000-ton ships planned for Kraft durch Fretide-no small project since there are now only about two dozen ships in the world which are as big. If built they will give Germany...

...seemed softly pervaded with wishy-washiness. Not so, however, to picked representatives of three faiths (Catholic, Jewish and Protestant) who agreed, at a World's Fair luncheon, to help raise $300,000 for the Temple. U. S. Lutherans and Episcopalians, who for two years had been negotiating for space for exhibits at the Fair, were dashed to learn that none would be available for them. Two church papers, thereupon, let off a little steam...

Unity? The Quantum Theory is incapable of dealing with the large-scale cosmos. Relativity can treat individual particles only as "singularities" (i.e., anomalies) in the space-time field-a far feebler picture than that provided by Quantum Theory. Many years ago Einstein said he would devote the rest of his life to the research for a Unified Field Theory which would comprehend all natural phenomena. He knows that such a fantastically ambitious goal will never be reached by a straight frontal attack. He has been probing around it, looking for avenues of approach, circuitously groping toward unity. Nearly a decade...

...been burning nearby swept into town as the wind changed, trapped most of its 1,200 inhabitants. As 475 of them climbed into a train at the station the engineer waited until the paint began to blister on the cars, then pulled out. Ninety waited in a cleared space beside the tracks, were burned to death. Two hundred others raced down the track in another direction, met another train. As they climbed aboard, flames broke out on both sides of the track. Fire chased the train so closely that the engineer and fireman fainted, and when the train finally stopped...
