Somewhere in the still remembered past the men of Harvard marched out into the battlefields that were to decide if the Nation were to exist as the founders of our government had planned. Some marched out wearing the northern blue, while others in southern gray followed the call of "Dixie" and "The Bonnie Blue Flag." Today Harvard stands by right of foundation the first university of the New World and a College recognized by both northern and southern elements in America...

With Leonard on the bench, the outcome of today's game is by no means assured. Since the southern trip, the University team has been coming along nicely and there has been a general improvement in the work. There is lots of life in the team, and the men are beginning to play with a little more confidence. The hitting has been exceptionally good, no less than five of the players having percentages close to 300 or over; and on the bases the men are doing better. Currier's catching is as energetic and effective as formerly and his throwing...

Today the University nine plays its first hard game in Cambridge and, although our opponents come with a rather formidable record, we neither expect nor are we prepared for anything except victory. The southern trip did much to round our players into form, and after an additional week's practice our men, with one or two exceptions, should be in the best of physical condition. It should prove to be an unusually interesting game, and one which will help us greatly to size up our prospects for the season. We wish the team the luck, which plays such an important...

...team had a snappy practice yesterday on the regular diamond. The rest which the squad was given the day before seemed to put lots of life into the men and the warm weather, too, helped considerably to produce fast ball. Briggs was out for the first time since the Southern trip and took light work, but Leonard did not report, preferring to take no chances with his strained tendon. They will probably both be in the line-up on Saturday against Dartmouth...
