...history of JA8119 (the plane's serial number) particularly attracted the probers' attention. On June 2, 1978, the aircraft approached a landing at Osaka with its nose too high. The tail and the rear part of the fuselage slammed into the tarmac at 320 m.p.h.; the impact ripped aluminum skin panels from the belly of the plane. JA8119 was grounded for a month while Boeing engineers supervised repairs that included replacement of the lower part of the rear fuselage...
...people locked inside a shared obsession--and a spare anthology of modern theater. The moral claustrophobia of No Exit, the strange sibling bond of The Glass Menagerie, the guilty sustaining secret of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and the menacing silences of Harold Pinter all brooded under the skin of Sam Shepard's naturalism. So the film version, which Shepard wrote and stars in, should be an event and not a puzzlement. In "opening up" the play, Robert Altman has dissipated some of its caged-animal tension and replaced it with torpid mannerisms. Eddie (Shepard) sucks all the existential...
...Africa's Christiaan Barnard helped his patients feel years younger. Now the doctor is taking a cosmetic approach to the same idea. He wants to help people take the years off their faces. Next month Barnard, 63, will visit Wall Street to tell investors about his new line of skin-care products, called Glycel, which promises to help erase wrinkles through a scientific process. Barnard and a team of biologists developed the formula at an institute in Basel, Switzerland. Barnard's business partner is a former banker who now owns La Prairie, a Swiss clinic where youth formulas were tried...
Barnard claims that his new formula encourages skin-cell regeneration. He and the research team discovered the key ingredient in the hearts of cattle and tested the potion for five years on some 250 women. Glycel will be marketed by Alfin Fragrances, a Manhattan-based perfume maker. Alfin expects to introduce Glycel by February in about 500 tony stores. The product line will reportedly range in price from a $30 skin cleanser to a $195 package of five items. MANAGEMENT Too Little Kick from Champale...
...plenty of these, especially in the pictures. Bare female breasts bob up in odd contexts, including a chapter devoted to the human back. Faced with such visual competition, Morris tries to keep his text and captions full of breathtaking assertions. Scarcely a smidgen of the 17 sq. ft. of skin that covers an average human escapes his hypotheses. Brooke Shields' full eyebrows and the small noses sported by contemporary male matinee idols both have something to do with the rise of feminism in the West. "The shape of the female navel has changed in recent years," Morris announces, a statement...
