...every Thursday afternoon. Although it would seem unnecessary to remind undergraduates of their responsibility under our present enlightened system of religious worship, we earnestly desire that they would encourage the preacher of the university in their work by a full attendance at these Vesper services. If we wish to show that Harvard has a true religious spirit, if we wish to benefit ourselves, or if we have no other motive than the enjoyment of sweet music and eloquence, we should all gladly take time from our daily occupation to attend these short Vesper services. With a feeling of gratitude...
...means of the lead, was able to keep the lead. As every one who saw the '86-'88 class game last year must remember, it is very hard work for an eleven to play an up-hill game and win it. The following extract from the Princetonian will show what the Princeton men thought of the playing of our team: "The game in general was a spirited and extremely interesting one, and the issue seemed by no means settled until the close of the contest. It is urged that if any undergraduate was led by the enthusiasm of the moment to carry off the flags, he will certainly now show himself gentleman enough to return them when a clear statement of the circumstances is made. No questions will be asked upon their return, nor will any attempt be made to investigate the matter. It is certainly only what can be expected of every gentleman that some deference shall be paid...
Some more hacks loaded with heavy graduates intervened between the Cup and the Law School. The drum corps of that body was excellently! drilled by that skilled tactician, Mr. J. A. Frye, and dressed in smart policemen's uniforms they formed a very pleasing feature of the show. Their leading transparency informed the public that they were "drumming for clients." Their other transparencies, though all based on legal catches were exceedingly clever. One represented "Circuity of Action," as exemplified by a corporal's arm and a trim maiden's waist; its reverse, by a diagram of a gentleman birching...
