...same place as Livni and Netanyahu - from Likud. "Lieberman was Netanyahu's chief of staff when Bibi was Prime Minister," a veteran Likudnik told me. "He and Tzipi were also very close." Lieberman left Netanyahu's staff, turning right, in the late 1990s; Livni turned left, joining Ariel Sharon's moderate Kadima party. But Livni made it clear that she would welcome Lieberman into a governing coalition if she won, which says something about the state of moderation in Israeli politics these days. In the hours after the election, it was assumed by the media and most politicians that Lieberman...

...Outstanding British Film category. The inclusion of heavyweight Slumdog among the five nominees seemed almost unfair, as if Stephen Hawking were to show up at your local pub quiz. Everyone was so busy assuming that Slumdog would walk away with the prize, it took a moment to register when Sharon Stone announced that Man on Wire - the critically acclaimed documentary about Frenchman Philip Petit's 1974 high-wire walk between the Twin Towers - had actually nabbed the BAFTA. The film's director James Marsh was so unprepared that when he hopped onto the stage, with a dazed look...

"We taught them to help where you can and right the wrongs that you see," she says. As in the old days, that...

...1950s, not something feminine or gracious, just provocative. I want to show that women can love fashion like I do and have a normal job and enjoy taking care of themselves and their families. Even when cosmetics companies use women of a certain age in their advertising, like Sharon Stone for Dior, for example, the photos are so retouched. There is really nothing in the magazines that I can identify with. I saw one photo in American Vogue of a model working, but she was wearing a twin-set and a tweed skirt, like in the 1950s. (See pictures...

Revisiting Ariel Sharon v. TIME In his "To Our Readers" letter, managing editor Richard Stengel asserts the honesty of the magazine in its coverage of the Middle East, saying, "People still recall the libel suit we won against Ariel Sharon in 1985" [Jan. 19]. For the sake of fairness, I would like to remind you of what occurred: a New York jury held that TIME's article was defamatory and false and that TIME had acted "negligently and carelessly" but held that Sharon, my father, had been unable to prove it was written "with actual malice or reckless disregard...
