Neither the words "misfortune" nor "fate" seem to apply to that condition of positive evil which the tendency of the age to extravagance and luxurious living has brought about. The records of the past week have made known a heavy embezzlement by the cashier of the Treasury Department of the State of New York, amounting to $ 300,000, developing a system of fraud...
