...college rooms do not enjoy much better accommodations now than they did twenty years ago, but we do imply that the new method, as carried out, is not much better than the system of three years ago. The rooms are not any better cared for, and expenses do not seem to have decreased in the least. Men have now more direct dealings with the college officers, but, since some men persist in giving the porters extra money, the necessity of "tips" raises the cost of one's room, and increases the inconvenience...
...branches of our athletics seem to have felt the effect of the recent enthusiasm, and we notice that the university and three class crews have started in to work with a will even at this early period. This is just what the college will approve. Report has it that our 'varsity's opponents have also begun to work for the spring contests so that we shall need all the available time. The great danger in making so early a start is that the men are liable to become overworked with being tied down to steady work for so long...
...frequently been remarked of late that the two great Phillips Academy preparatory schools, Exeter and Andover, seem to be undergoing a radical change in the numbers which they are sending respectively to Yale and Harvard. The result is that while the proportion sent from the two schools to Harvard and Yale has evened up a great deal, neither college has gained more...
...Yale freshman team has been working faithfully this fall. From its practice games it would seem that the team has been playing a stronger game than the Harvard freshmen have. But it will not receive so many 'varsity players. Bliss, Lewis, Noyes and Polk have played on the 'varsity at various times during the fall. If the first two played in yesterday's game with Princeton, they are not apt to be in condition to play another hard game on Saturday. If Bliss does play he is apt to give Harvard considerable trouble, as he is a very deceptive...
Those who are fortunate enough to see the Yale-Princeton game tomorrow will witness another hard fought and close contest. On the form shown by the two teams in the games played so far the chances would seem to be in favor of Yale. But Princeton has been exceedingly unfortunate all fall; at no time since the middle of October has Captain Poe been able to put his strongest team into the field. Princeton will still be seriously handicapped when she meets Yale on account of the loss of Black and Hayden; the others who have been on the injured...
