...timely dig in the intervening pages at our "dearest foe." Apart from the local color cast upon it by the shadow of coming events, the number strikes us as no more or less than most Lampoons. Some of the jokes and poems are funny and cleverly done, but they seem no more appropriate to the Lampoon than they would be to a publication of similar end and nature in any other college, or for that matter to any "funny paper" in general. One realizes perhaps that jokes are being cracked at the expense of college life, but of what college...
...these forty songs only two have been sung at the mass meetings, and the success achieved by these two has been by no means tremendous. ...verse, Mr. Pulsifer's "Palace of Heart's Desire" is distinctly the best in conception and expression. "The West Today is a dithyramb, and rises at moments to dithyrambic unintelligibility, as in the first line, "Land that the lakes have brided." The lingling anapests of "Morituri Salutamus" seem fitter to "Here's a health to King Charles" than to the bleeding and tearful gladiator. "Jealousy" is an aptly turned conceit in four lines; and "Will of the Wisp" has a good second stanza...
...spite of the fact that the class of 1909 has never won the class football championship, and although this is the last chance to do so, there does not seem to be enough interest among the men in the class to come out in sufficient numbers to make up even two teams. Furthermore, many of those who have come out do not report regularly for practice, which makes it almost impossible to accomplish any results in developing a team...
