...experimental and limited financial aspects of this program should be stressed," Moore said, "because this is not an employment service, but an intern program in the public sector, designed not to automatically exclude people who need to earn money for college expenses from taking these public sector jobs, which don't pay as much as many other jobs...

...plan is also modeled on prevailing notions about existing economic structures throughout the report Bok refers to the "private sector" and the "public sector" in an almost grotesque parody of Harvard's adamantly neo-classical Economics Department. In the report's outline of a core curriculum for public leaders Bok includes "an exposure to economics" with an emphasis on training that "should enable students to analyze the role of incentives in influencing the behavior of individuals and institutions." There seems to be no room for Marxian economics in the program because the program simply reflects the status...

This brief review suggests that it is possible to attract large numbers of students to educational programs that will prepare them for important policy and administrative roles. But the public sector remains sufficiently disorderly and varied in its needs that it is scarcely possible to consider the creation of a single professional program along the lines of a faculty of medicine or law. In that three-ring atmosphere, the management appropriately promised that costumed "clowns will perform throughout the game." The unintended reference ultimately proved embarrassing to the Pistons. Treating them like part of the sideshow, the Bullets won by 25 points and reinforced the claim that under...
