Another great event "was the annual cruise of the navy on some vessel chartered for the occasion, and freighted well with 'creature comforts.' The navy would then sail out into Massachusetts Bay, and would usually have a grand chowder somewhere - generally on the shore of Cape Cod. This cruise lasted three days. On returning, they landed at one of the Boston wharves, and proceeded to Cambridge in wagons, usually in a very merry mood.
