Back from its road trip to New York last week, the Harvard women’s volleyball team faced stiff competition at home this weekend, losing to Princeton (15-3, 7-0 Ivy) and Penn (12-7, 5-2) in a duo of Ivy League matchups. Both opponents defeated the women’s squad in three straight games. The Crimson (7-13, 2-6), although unable to win a game, stayed with the Tigers on Friday and finished each game within five points of the league leaders.Especially notable was the play of senior Laura Mahon, who recorded her 1,000th...
...movies, Reservation Road and Things We Lost in the Fire, take up this theme. In the former, a lawyer named Dwight Arno (Mark Ruffalo) is rushing to return his son to his estranged wife, when his car hits and kills a small boy. Panicked, he flees the scene, becoming a guilt-ridden hit-and-run driver. In the latter, a father goes out to buy ice cream for his family, intervenes in a street corner act of domestic violence and is murdered for his trouble. The story basically goes like this: Wes Scantlin, Mudd’s lead singer, drives down a dark road with several Scooby-Doo-esque characters. After running over Michael Myers from “Halloween” and Leatherface from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” the group decides it might be a good idea to stay the night at the Bates Motel. They sprint...
...self-imposed exile, killing at least 85 and sending more than 75 critically injured to nearby hospitals. The bulletproof truck of the two-time former Prime Minister was rocked by the explosions, which intelligence reports are saying were caused by explosive-laden vehicles parked on the side of the road, about 30 meters away from Bhutto's party. An unconfirmed report said that the first explosion may have been caused by a suicide bomber. Members of Bhutto's entourage escaped with minor injuries, but the crowds lining the path took the full brunt of the blasts. Party members...
