...there are many others on death row who continue to profess their innocence. Women doing time for murder in Baghdad live in a single 10-bunk cell in Khadamiyah Women's Prison in the northern part of town near the Tigris River. There waits Zayneb, a brown-haired woman in her late 20s wearing a black head scarf, convicted in September of conspiring with her husband to murder three relatives. The judge gave her three death sentences, one for each relative who was murdered. She says she didn't have anything to do with their deaths. She has only...
...Take the congressional race in Louisville. Despite the city's location just spitting distance from the Bible Belt - and directly across the river from conservative, rural Southern Indiana - voters veered leftward in picking an unabashed liberal to replace a popular and well-entrenched conservative Republican congresswoman. Speaking of stink, The Advocate (also known as “The Club” in the newly screened Ivory Tower) raised a stink one Saturday night as new initiates handed...
Metaphor became reality last week, as a major backup in the pipes underneath Eliot House yielded flooding localized to the D, E, and F entryways, but, unfortunately, not to their bathrooms. Congestion from deep in the bowels of Eliot caused water, that made the Charles River look potable, to spring from the shower drains and fill the rooms of a few unlucky souls. The inhabitants fled to not-so-nearby Dunster House as their infected common rooms began to be decontaminated. An event such as this can only be interpreted as the will of a higher power...
