Washington, D. C., March 31, 1909.--At the request of President Taft, President Eliot called at the White House this morning and the two conferred in the Blue Room. It is understood that the Embassy to the Court of St. James was officially tendered to President Eliot and that he was given time to consider it. The expectation is that he will accept the post and will not enter upon the duties before October, for the official change at London is not to be made until then, and possibly not until later. From Bishop Stringer comes the request for a medical missionary to work among the Indians of Selkirk, Yukon Territory. The salary for this position would be $1200 a year, including house and travelling expenses. Furthermore, the Canadian government is now considering the appointment of an Indian agent, perhaps for the whole Yukon Territory.
