...Advertiser has the following sensible editorial on the recent disturbance at Dartmouth: "The young Dartmouth men, probably sophomores, who have broken their teachers' windows and soiled the chapel seats reserved for the faculty, will do well to quit college immediately, or invoke a full pardon, as such outrages cannot remain undiscovered and unpunished. The resolution of the sophomores to stand together in such dirty matters is discreditable and childish. How can these young men justify their co-operation in cowardice and absurd defiance...

...supposed that all hazing and kindred amusements, formerly prevalent at American colleges, were things of the past. Recent events, however, have proved that these outbreaks still remain as institutions of some of our leading colleges. At Yale, in spite of the strong attitude of the college papers in favor of allowing the annual "banger" rush, which takes place on Washington's birthday, to die out, as did the freshman theatre parties, in vogue up to last year at Harvard, the class of '86 gave their voice in favor of perpetuating the silly custom by appearing with huge canes Thursday morning...

During the twelve weeks which yet remain before the date of the spring race we may expect to see a good deal of effectual work put in by the various class crews. The eights at this early date seem to be very evenly matched, promising a close and exciting race, if all the crews work regularly and train faithfully for the rest of the period before the race. Judging from former years, the river will open about the 10th of March, so that the crews will have about three weeks more in the gymnasium, leaving nine weeks for work...
