There are so many factors of so many different kinds entering into the cost of production as to complicate greatly the problem of keeping down expenses. The cost of raw materials, the cost of transportation, the labor cost, interest and other overhead expenses are only a few of the items; besides, there are many factors entering into the cost of each of these items. If any of these items could be cheapened, certain industries could run even if the other items were not cheapened. For example, if freight rates could be reduced, certain industries could pay expenses out of receipts...
...long time. Few games have been more exciting to watch--few opponents more dangerous. A lot is said about victories and morale, usually with the tongue in the cheek. But at the end of the third quarter in Saturday's game Harvard had little but morale left. Those who raw are bound to agree with Jack Hardwick that ties are not accidents, especially when they occur in the last few minutes of play, as Princeton and Penn State have each borne witness twice. It is just a matter of "homely guts", and if Harvard ever showed "guts" she showed them...

The undergraduate persists in wearing his worn and stained felt hat--no matter how sultry the weather. Not until the publicly advertised Straw-hat Day has come and gone does the University...
...these, the "turnover" tax would assess every sale from the raw material to the final product at delivery. Since some articles pass through many more hands than do others, certain branches of industry must inevitably labor under a serious disadvantage. The "turnover" tax, moreover, would encourage the formation of combinations, to the exclusion of the small manufacturer and the middleman; it would tax concerns regardless of how profitable they are it is, therefore, not adapted to American business conditions. The retail sales tax, on the other hand, eliminates this difficulty by proposing to collect revenue upon the product...
