Only three contestants appeared for the amateur mile dash - Messrs. Hosmer of Boston, Hendee of Springfield and Norton of the H. B. C. Mr. Hendee's reputation as an extremely rapid rider was well sustained in this race. The start was very poor, Hosmer taking first place, Hendee second and Norton third.
