...very light afternoon's work yesterday. None of the squads were out early and all of the available time was spent in running through the signals. Ex-Captain Wrightington gave the backs valuable points on the formation of interference and got them to playing together and starting quicker. Sawin was at right half in place of Brown, throughout the practice, and showed up well in most of the plays. Considering the unfavorable conditions of rain and a slippery field, the running of the backs was decidedly encouraging...
...errors. The fielding of the rest of the team was fair, but the men played in a rather too confident way and did not exert themselves enough. Stevenson seems to have improved a great deal in form since last year; he handles himself better and is much quicker and surer. Hayes made one bad fumble, but redeemed himself later by what should have been a double play but for Haughton's error. Haughton played carelessly and as if he felt too secure of his position. Scannell made some clever catches of high fouls...
...with the launch cheers were given for Mr. Lehmann and Goodrich and Perkins. The crews started at 12.50, Perkins's crew catching the water first. They kept the lead only a short time, however. Goodrich's crew soon got ahead and increased the distance steadily. This crew rowed the quicker stroke all through the race, for part of the time making 36 to the minute, while the other crew reached 34. Both crews, however, rowed a splendid race. Brewer's punting was much quicker than it has been before. He made several long punts, notably one of 55 yards. In tackling and running, however, he did poorly. He ought to have had Gonterman when the latter made his run through tackle for a touchdown...
