However, the film clearly had aspirations beyond the financial. Released just as the war was ending, it also functioned as a piece of propaganda: “None Shall Escape” opens and closes with the presiding judge of a war crimes trial directly addressing the audience, asking that justice be done in light of the trial...

...Nazi propaganda machine was infamous for portraying Jews as vermin who had infested Europe. I take the greatest offense to Klein's reference to Jewish communities, "settlements," situated over the Green Line as "an infestation that most Palestinians, rightly, consider a continuous invasion of their land." His opinion of their legality is a separate issue, but his choice of language is debasing and dehumanizing. Ardie Geldman, EFRAT, ISRAEL

Less well-funded patriots mount inexpensive programs on public-access or satellite TV. Or they can make and market their own videotapes-a propaganda tactic that insulates the patriot evangelists from any direct blame for the antigovernment acts they may inspire. The handful of celebrities on the patriot circuit-people like Koernke, attorney Linda Thompson and Militia of Montana founder John Trochmann-all have tapes in circulation that promote their theories about the plot to take over the world. Unlike the drug traffickers, insurgent fighters didn't have to go very far to hide from McChrystal's troops. Abdul Rahman Jan, a tribal elder and former Helmand-province police chief, points out that "hardly a single gun was captured by the NATO forces." He believes that many of the Taliban fighters simply moved back from their quarters inside Marjah's mosques and madrasahs to stay with their families. Wherever they are, the insurgents...

History Unearthed I'm surprised you fell for a 3,000-year-old propaganda trick by assuming that the "City of David" was founded by King David [Feb. 8]. It was not; he only conquered it, even the Bible tells us so (2 Samuel 5: 6-9; Joshua 15: 63). Strangely, the last paragraph refers to the city's 6,000-year history and even explicitly mentions the Jebusites who were there before David. That's a bit inconsistent with a founding date of 1,000 B.C. Michael Scharl, VIENNA
