...Professor Winlock graduated in 1845 at Shelby College, Kentucky, and was immediately appointed Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy in that institution. He held this office till 1852, when he removed to Cambridge and took part in the computation of the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac. In 1857 he was appointed Professor of Mathematics in the United States Navy, and for several months afterwards was Assistant in the United States Naval Observatory at Washington.
