First, it must be acknowledged that the guide is funny. Beginning on page five with a parody of the admissions test at the Dalton School for the Academically Gifted, the book is a witty and occasionally even incisive look at the admissions process. The Lampoon, in this book and in general, is at its funniest when its satire has the bite of social commentary; this is the case at a few points in the college book. The book pokes fun at the advantages for the rich in the admissions process and what it calls "the standardized testing racket" the parody...

In most cases, the complainants begin to look at the book in light of the whole process and realize that although they may not want their child to read a book such as "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson because it has several profanities, it is actually a very fine book that other parents might want their own children...

If, as it now appears, this is simply a case of a group of consenting adults and their children trying to leave Cuba, then it's a no-brainer in the eyes of the U.S. public. And making a fuss might undo the gains Havana made in U.S. public opinion during the Elian showdown. In other words, don't expect to see this case remain...
