Typical of the ineptness shown by American foreign affairs experts was their continued advice that the President should not postpone his visit to Tokyo. The same advice was given by Ambassador MacArthur. The experts reasoned that pro-American elements in Japan would prevail and the President could be assured at least a reasonably cordial welcome.
