Public-Power Man. David Eli Lilienthal was born in the little town of Morton, Ill., the son of Jewish immigrants from a village near the old Austro-Hungarian city of Pressburg. He spent his boyhood in Valparaiso, Ind., where his father was a small merchant, went on to De Pauw University, where he was twice president of the student body and an editor of the school paper. He turned into a promising light heavyweight boxer, and met a girl named Helen Marian Lamb...

...called up old enemies of Lilienthal as witnesses. He bludgeoned him with gossip, crackpot letters, unsupported charges. He insisted on knowing the birthplace of Lilienthal's parents, aged 72 and 78. "It was in the vicinity of Pressburg, which is now a part of Czechoslovakia," said Lilienthal...

Mysteriously billed as the rider, "A Scandal in Paris" is a far more satisfactory show, and, in the absence of a cartoon, is the only obstacle between the U.T. patrons and three hours of fitful slumber. Arthur Pressburg's screen adaptation of the escapades of Francois Vidoque, 19th century lover and second story man extraordinaire, does not wallow in the mire of an uncoordinated plot, hopefully punctuated with gags, but relies on well developed comedy of situation in an interesting and smoothly flowing story. In 1890 at the age of nine, Bartok first composed some pieces for piano, and a year later made his public debut as pianist and composer. In 1893 he entered Pressburg, where he studied largely under Dohnanyi, and six years later he left for the Royal Hungarian Academy of Budapest. Throughout these years Bartok went through successive periods under the influence first of Brahms, then Lizt and Wagner, later Richard Strauss and Magyar folk music. With the failure of the new Hungarian Music Society in which...

...Journey By Night (adapted by Arthur Goodrich; Shuberts, producers), a hackneyed, pathetically pretentious tale of a romantic young man who ruins himself for a scarlet woman, is less notable as an evening's entertainment than as a record-breaker for failure. Once called A Trip to Pressburg and again The Face at the Window, it was written by Leo Perutz and produced by Max Reinhardt in Vienna in 1931 with Mrs. Ferenc Molnar as the leading lady. Three U. S. producers held rights to the show before the Shuberts had Harry Wagstaff Gribble revise it for presentation in Philadelphia...
