...Baker break the 220 yards record yesterday afternoon. The track at Beacon Park was chosen for the race, because it has a 220 yards straight-a-way. It has the representation of being an exceptionally fast track, but in spite of the broken records yesterday, it was in poor condition. The rain had formed a thin layer of mud on the top, and even when this was scraped off, the track was dead and without its usual spring. To make the record beyond dispute, four well known authorities in sporting circles came from New York especially for this race...

...only a couple of years ago when the same sort of trouble which is brewing now broke out, but the outcome of it was the best 'varsity crew that Yale had ever put upon the water. The Academy nine batted hard and fielded well, McNeil leading in both particulars. Aldrich pitched a good game, and was finely supported by Knowlton...

...batting on both sides was weak, and Harvard won through the poor fielding of their opponents, not one of the eleven runs being earned. Bingham pitched finely, being hit for only three singles, and striking out twelve men. Henshaw was a tower of strength behind the bat, and coached the base runners superbly. Morgan played finely at second base, making a wonderful left-handed catch. McPherson ran his bases in fine style, stealing second and third every time he had a chance. For Yale, Watkinson pitched fairly, striking out sixteen men, but was terribly wild, ten men going to first...
