...make it, Phillips so far has spent or committed $10.9 million on Salton City. Improvement costs are high, but so are profits. On a one-third-acre plot that costs Phillips about $40, he puts in another $400 for development and $600 for promotion. His selling price: $2,000 or more. After a land buyer has paid one-third the cost of his lot, the Phillips organization will provide 100% financing, at 7% interest, to build a house...

...Sleeping Beauty is crude: a compromise between sentimental, crayon-book childishness and the sort of cute, commercial cubism that tries to seem daring but is really just square. The hero and heroine are sugar sculpture, and the witch looks like a clumsy tracing from a Charles Addams cartoon. The plot often seems to owe less to the tradition of the fairy tale than to the formula of the monster movie. Things get much better very quickly after that. Master Pierre Patelin is an ancient and anonymous French piece beloved of high school French teachers, who are not in all respects exactly like the rest of us. The complicated plot concerns a disreputable lawyer who cheats others and who is himself cheated, and never would intrigue have been less intriguing, except for an excellent actor by the name of John Casey. Mr. Casey sweats not, neither does he strain. He plays the shifty Patelin as one of those people who, when they are not leaning against something, contrive somehow to appear...
