...situation in which violence is used, almost always innocent people are hurt. Even assuming that a guilty person is occasionally given his just deserts, is it worth the cost to innocent people? The same principle should apply here as in law. Anglo-Saxon jurisprudence has always assumed a man is innocent until proven guilty. This assumption exists to protect the innocent. Those are the bare facts, but as I followed Francis around the coffee circuit which is the backbone of local politics, it became clear that what looked good on paper was better in person.
