...work with fair success, when limited to "honor men." In History 1, to mention only one example, the evening collateral conferences proved to add much to the interest of the course. But the plan as applied to undergraduates in general has its drawbacks. If undergraduate "human nature" were perfect, or if all the distractions,--subtle and otherwise,--which lead to procrastination and alas! too often to the professional tutor, could be swept away, then the "conference programme" would undoubtedly be a long step in advance toward thorough scholarship. As it is now, however, the proposed plan is directly opposed...
...present Freshman team is far from a perfect one, as was shown by last Saturday's race, and it is not too late for new men who show good from to become members. Since ten men will probably be sent to the interscholastic run at Andover on November 22, and there are at present only fifteen, out, there is still ample opportunity for new comers to participate in that and other races this fall...
Three scores from the field by Brickley were enough to win the game, and the touchdown by Hardwick showed that Harvard had completely worn out the Princeton team. Brickley's drop-kicks were both from the 15-yard line and were protected by a perfect defence; his goal from placement after Gardner's fair catch was the feature of the game. Seldom does one see a 47-yard placement kick pass squarely over the cross bar; and this score was the one which practically won the game. Not only were Brickley's goals unusual, but Felton's punts were also...
...Freshman squad who will start the game against Princeton 1916 tomorrow were given light work yesterday. A blackboard talk followed by fifteen minutes at the dummies started the practice and then the linesmen and backs were separated, the former to run down under punts, and the latter to perfect their forward passing. A half hour of signal drill ended work...
...football team was put through a hard program today, being kept on the field almost three hours. First came a scrimmage with the scrubs lasting about 45 minutes, during which the Varsity was kept entirely on the defensive. Though the Varsity's tackling was still far from perfect, and the work of the ends poor, there was noticeable improvement in the line. The scrubs could make no steady gains, their plunges being repeatedly thrown back. They scored once, however, when a thirty-yard end run by Hammond brought the ball to the one-yard line, and a rush by Thompson...
