...owner of Felipe’s could not be reached for comment yesterday. Asked whether a national chain will change the character of the Square, Liwerant noted that stores like Starbucks, the Gap, and Au Bon Pain already own franchises in the area—and that this particular Qdoba branch will be locally owned. “The important thing is the quality of your concept, not whether it’s a chain or not,” said Liwerant, who lives in the Square. The executive director of the Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA), Denise A. Jillson...

...When I touch her long, skinny foot, it hurts at one particular spot. This is where it hurts when she tries to dance. The X-ray at first glance is normal, but if you look very carefully there's a little disruption of the lace-like pattern of the bone's spongy internal architecture at exactly the spot where it hurts. (This X-ray, by the way, was read as "normal" by the radiologist. Decent citizenship of the world is incompatible with statistical ignorance. A Harvard education must train people to separate compelling evidence from froth. Statisticians do have a comparative advantage in this, but I can readily imagine great core courses taught by Florence Professor of Government Gary King or Ford Professor of the Social Sciences Robert J. Sampson teaching students empirical methods with a focus on politics or sociology. The analytical reasoning component...
