...game yesterday was a complete contrast to that of Saturday. Howe's pitching was remarkably wild, the Bostons taking first base on balls nine times. His throwing to bases was also poor. In the infield Hovey made three errors and Dean one. The outfield played well except for one badly misjudged fly by Dickinson. Hallowell and Frothingham both made beautiful catches, each assisting in a timely double play. Cook at third made a fine catch of a ball thrown high over his head. He also made the only clean hit that Harvard got, and his sacrifice in the fifth inning...
...preparatory school nine. The Harvard team played a very listless game and showed little snap. Minton pitched the greater part of the game and would have been more effective had he not given so many bases on balls. Corbett caught and was undoubtedly not in good practice. The outfield had nothing to do and so could make no errors. The team ran bases fairly well but their general play was very slow. The men were slow in taking their places and caused the game to drag. The nine had little difficulty in hitting the ball and batted well. The teams...
...this did not make the game uninteresting. The fielding of our nine was good and their base running excellent. Hallowell and Hovey batted hard. Cobb and Upton caught prettily. Dean played second base well and Hovey made some beautiful stops at short. In the outfield Dickinson made two pretty catches. Harvard's pitching was her weak point. In the first inning, with Bates in the box, the Bostons made 6 runs on as many hits. In the third inning again the Bostons make four singles and a triple. Howe took Bates' place in the seventh inning and in the eighth...
...sixteen, from whom the team and substitutes will be chosen. Of these sixteen, four are trying for pitcher; Young, '92, Bergen, '91, Woodcock, '92, and Drake, '94; and three for catcher, Brokaw, '92, Woods, '92, and Humphrey, '94. Some of the men will later be put in the outfield. With Capt. Dana on first, Durell at second, Knickerbocker at short, and King at third, the infield will be the same as last year, with the exception of third base. King, '93, promises to fill that position very satisfactorily, taking the place of Watts, who leaves college. Last year's team...
This list does not include all the men who will become candidates a little later on, and the available material for the infield and outfield will probably be still further strengthened by men who are now trying for places on the battery...
