President Barnard complimented the members of the graduating class of Columbia College, at the commencement exercises yesterday, for their unusual attainments in scholarship. It is gratifying to note that the assiduous pursuit of knowledge on the Harlem has not interfered with a proper amount of devotion to letters. The Columbia crew will go to New London today. ...sorry to note the absence of Prof. Greenough's name in the Elective Pamphlet. That privilege of Harvard professors, allowing them an occasional leave of absence, will deprive us of several instructors next year. Prof. Goodwin has accepted the directorship of the American School at Athens, and Prof. Dunbar will likewise spend a year abroad, which will deprive us of their valuable instruction. In addition we see that Prof. Greenough will give up his course for the coming year. It is unfortunate, to say the least, that they should have chanced upon the same year for their vacation...
