Prof. Palmer very kindly invited all who desired to meet Prof. Thompson, of the University of Pennsylvania to come to his room yesterday afternoon, and it is needless to say that the opportunity thus offered of a personal acquaintance with the distinguished lecturer on protective tariffs was accepted by a large number of students. Though from the hands of a composer who has the reputation of being generally dry, abstruse and uninteresting, it certainly gave the impression of being a melody of romance, beauty, and anything but dry. Its themes are short and graceful; but it is needless to say that they are developed with all the resources and skill of the musician's art.
