...floor of the Footlight Club and there are "Timilty for Mayor" signs in front of the discolights. The music is very loud--as are the costumes. And as he stands next to some huge guy in a massive sombrero. Timilty looks decidedly uncomfortable. A young woman dressed up as Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live screeches up to the candidate and asks to take his picture. Her friend, in a President Carter costume, stands next to Timilty and the mask grins like an idiot. Timilty grins, too--but he just doesn't look that happy

Last year's Series between LA and New York was so much more exciting because the cities are so far apart. A World Series between Topeka, Kansas and New Delhi, India would be fantastic. It was so nice of you. Mr. Toobin to make me realize this. I think that from now on the teams should be selected to play in the World Series on the basis of the distance between and the vitality of their cities and not by their abilities...

...Mr. Kristof claims that the terrorist PLO has a "sincere desire for peace" and is in fact "privately...resigned to accept...Israel's existence as a fact of life." That is simply not the case. He evidently is referring to Arafat's acceptance of UN Resolution 3236, which the SCLC says recognizes Israel's right to exist, but in fact does not in any way. The Palestinian National Covenant of the PLO still calls for "armed struggle (as) the overall strategy" (Art. 9) and the "total liberation of Palestine" (Art. 21). wre these the slogans of an organization which wants...
