This disappointingly mediocre film is the follow-up to last year's brilliant Trainspotting; though it sports the same director, writer, producer and star, the similarities end there. The ill-paced narrative tells the story of Robert (Ewan McGregor), a recently-fired janitor who unwittingly kidnaps the beautiful daugher (Cameron Diaz) of his rich ex-boss. Screenwriter John Hodge attempts to freshen things up by tossing in a couple of gun-toting angels, a psychotic dentist and some forced romantic comedy, but only manages to further muddle the plot...
...very title is mystifying. It seems to belong on a memoir by a minor, faintly boring old poet. It perches rather uneasily atop a story in which Robert, a sweet, dim maintenance man (a woofly Ewan McGregor), replaced by a robot, decides to revenge himself on his rich, cruel boss (Ian Holm) by kidnapping the boss's daughter Celine (a sleek Cameron Diaz). She, naturally, turns out to be spoiled, smart, willful and eager to collaborate in ripping off Daddy...
...Hodge also have nice taste in dream sequences. There's nothing here that quite equals McGregor's dive down the toilet in Trainspotting, but there's a dance number, to the antique strains of Beyond the Sea, that begins in a karaoke bar and ends in a romantic delirium that's just wonderful. And not at all the sort of thing you'd expect to arise out of the sere Utah landscape where the fugitives have taken refuge from Celine's implacably pursuing...

...visual terms, the Sisters (Rachel McGregor '00, Fay Ferency '99, and Josh Cohen '97) are well cast. Clad in black, naturally, and wearing satyr masks of white make-up, with their hair twisted and gelled into unnatural little projections, they look like a cross between elves and goth ravers. The Sisters' numbers are executed with a maximum of modern-dance movement to accompany them, and they play some marvelous tricks with a large black satin blanket...
