Target date for the first issue of New York's new afternoon newspaper, the World Journal, is April 25. The only way the date can be met, said Matt Meyer, president of the new publishing company, World Journal Tribune, Inc., is for the newspaper unions to cooperate. "In our judgment," wrote Meyer in a letter to World-Telegram employees, "the merger is the only way we can create a publishing force which will endure in New York and, at the same time, make employment available to the largest number of people who presently work for our papers." Naked Naiads. The biggest, noisiest and naughtiest contender in the new spystakes is The Silencers, with Crooner Dean Martin playing Matt Helm, a secret agent for ICE (Intelligence Counter Espionage). Its plot pits Helm against the mastermind of one of those atomic conspiracies, headquartered in what appears to be a sunken carrier under the desert near Alamogordo. Beslimed in his own filth-a symbolic rebirth-Matt rises from the hold to be dashed with the condescending baptism of the new world: "In America, we bathe." In the strangled fury of his pride, Matt learns a new commandment: "Get power. Without it, there can be no decency." There is precious little decency in Matt's struggle for power. He steals a mistress away from...
...Crimson juniors, Craig Stapleton (six) and Matt Hall (eight), continued their streak of dependable play. After momentarily lapsing into a slamming contest with Princeton's Bill Reed, Stapleton regained control of the match for a 15-12, 17-18, 10-15, 15-11, 15-10 win. Hall, undefeated this season, pressed Tiger Chris Mayer to the wall...
